Worked example
Third Monday of January 2026: 1 January is a Thursday, so the first Monday is the 5th. Then 5 + 7 × 2 = 19 January 2026.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the third Monday of a month?
Find the first Monday, then add 7 days for each step. In January 2026 the first Monday is the 5th, so the third is 5 + 14 = the 19th.
What if the month has no fifth of that weekday?
Most months have only four of some weekdays. February 2026 has four Mondays (2, 9, 16, 23), so no fifth Monday exists and the calculator shows an error. Choose Last to get the final one.
What is the difference between fifth and last?
Last is the final occurrence, which is the fourth or the fifth. October 2026 has five Fridays (2, 9, 16, 23, 30), so both give 30 October. November 2026 has four, so last is 27 November.
Why is this useful?
Recurring events are often set as a rule such as the fourth Thursday of November or the last Friday of the month. This turns the rule into a date: the fourth Thursday of November 2026 is 26 November.
