Formula

new date = start date − days

The count uses whole calendar days, so month lengths and leap years are handled automatically. Weekends and holidays are not skipped.

Worked example

1 January 2024 minus 365 days:

  • 2023 is a common year with 365 days, so going back 365 days lands on the same day one year earlier
  • the result is 1 January 2023, a Sunday

Frequently asked questions

How do I subtract days from a date?

Count backward one calendar day at a time, rolling into the previous month at the start of a month. 1 March 2024 minus 1 day is 29 February 2024.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. 1 March 2025 minus 365 days is 1 March 2024, because the year between them has 365 days (it contains no 29 February).

Does this skip weekends or holidays?

No. Every calendar day counts, including weekends. To count only Monday to Friday, use the business days calculator.

How do I find the date 90 days ago?

Enter today as the start date and 90 as the days to subtract. For example, 90 days before 1 April 2024 is 2 January 2024.
