Formula

result = value × (factor of the from-unit) ÷ (factor of the to-unit), where every factor is the unit expressed in kg/m³. For example 1 g/cm³ = 1,000 kg/m³ and 1 lb/ft³ = 0.45359237 kg ÷ 0.028316846592 m³ = 16.018463 kg/m³.

Worked example

Convert water, 1,000 kg/m³, to lb/ft³: 1,000 × 1 ÷ 16.018463 = 62.427961 lb/ft³. Convert 1 g/cm³ to kg/m³: 1 × 1,000 ÷ 1 = 1,000 kg/m³.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert g/cm³ to kg/m³?

Multiply by 1,000. Aluminium at 2.70 g/cm³ is 2.70 × 1,000 = 2,700 kg/m³.

What is the density of water in lb/ft³?

Water is about 1,000 kg/m³, which is 1,000 ÷ 16.018463 = 62.43 lb/ft³.

Are g/mL and g/cm³ the same?

Yes. One millilitre is exactly one cubic centimetre, so 1 g/mL = 1 g/cm³ = 1,000 kg/m³.

How many kg/m³ is 1 lb/gal?

One pound per US gallon is 0.45359237 ÷ 0.003785411784 = 119.826 kg/m³.
