Formula
grade = sum(score × weight) ÷ sum(weight)
points earned = sum(score × weight) ÷ 100
Weights are percentages of the course and should total 100.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each score by its weight, add the results and divide by the total weight. With 90 at 20%, 80 at 20%, 85 at 20% and 70 at 40%, the sum is 1800 + 1600 + 1700 + 2800 = 7900, and 7900 ÷ 100 = 79.
What if my weights do not add up to 100%?
If they add up to less, the grade shown is your average on the work entered so far, and the points earned show how much of the course it already covers. If they add up to more, check the syllabus, because some weight is counted twice.
What is the difference between grade and points earned?
The grade is your average on the graded work. Points earned is the part of the full course already in the bank. Scoring 90 on work worth 50% earns 45 points.
Can I enter extra credit?
Yes, scores up to 200% are accepted. A 110 on work worth 50% and a 100 on work worth 50% gives a weighted grade of 105.
