Frequently asked questions
How do I add a markup to a cost?
Selling price = cost × (1 + markup ÷ 100). A cost of 80 with a 25% markup sells for 80 × 1.25 = 100.
Is a 25% markup a 25% margin?
No. Markup is a share of cost, margin a share of the price. A 25% markup gives a margin of 25 ÷ 125 = 20%.
How do I get a target margin from a markup?
Margin = markup ÷ (100 + markup). A 100% markup doubles the price and gives a 50% margin; for a 37.5% margin you need a 60% markup.
Does the price include tax?
No. The price is before any sales tax or VAT, which vary by place and are added on top.
