Crop Yield Calculator: Bushels per Acre to kg/ha
Divide what you harvested by the area it came from to get a yield, or multiply an expected yield by your field size to estimate the total harvest. Results show bushels per acre, tonnes per hectare, kg per hectare and lb per acre at once. Bushel conversions use typical standard test weights, which vary slightly by country and grade.

Formula
- Yield per area =
harvested weight / area - Total expected harvest =
yield per area x area
Unit factors are exact definitions: 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg and 1 acre = 0.40468564224 ha, so 1 lb/acre = 1.120851 kg/ha. Bushels use typical standard test weights (lb per bushel): corn 56, wheat 60, soybeans 60, barley 48, oats 32.
Worked example
- 5,000 kg of wheat from 2 ha: 5,000 / 2 = 2,500 kg/ha = 2.5 t/ha = 2,230.45 lb/acre = 37.17 bu/acre.
- 180 bu/acre of corn: 180 x 56 = 10,080 lb/acre = 11,298.18 kg/ha.
- 3 t/ha on 12 ha: 3,000 x 12 = 36,000 kg (79,366.41 lb).
- 180 bu/acre of corn on 40 acres: 10,080 lb x 40 = 403,200 lb, about 182,888 kg.
When to use it
Use it after harvest to compare fields or seasons in the same unit, to translate between an extension bulletin in bushels per acre and a local report in tonnes per hectare, or before harvest to estimate the total crop for storage and sales. Any yield figure you read in a book or a forum is a typical value, not a promise for your field.
Common mistakes
- Mixing harvested area and planted area. Use the area the weight actually came from.
- Using the wrong crop for the bushel conversion, since a bushel of oats weighs far less than a bushel of wheat.
- Comparing yields at different grain moistures. Standard moisture differs by crop and market.
- Entering the area in the wrong unit, for example square metres when you meant hectares (1 ha = 10,000 m2).
How it differs from nearby calculators
The seed quantity calculator works backwards from the plants you want to the seed you buy, and the germination rate calculator measures how many seeds sprout. This page starts from the harvest and gives the result per area in every common unit. For forage animals see the hay requirement calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate crop yield per acre or hectare?
Divide the harvested weight by the harvested area. For 5,000 kg from 2 ha the yield is 5,000 / 2 = 2,500 kg/ha, which is 2.5 t/ha.
How do I convert bushels per acre to kg per hectare?
Multiply bushels by the crop's pounds per bushel to get lb/acre, then multiply by 1.12085 to get kg/ha. For corn at 56 lb per bushel, 180 bu/acre is 10,080 lb/acre, or about 11,298 kg/ha (11.3 t/ha).
How do I estimate my total expected harvest?
Multiply the expected yield by the field area. At 3 t/ha on 12 ha, the harvest is 3 x 12 = 36 tonnes, or 36,000 kg (about 79,366 lb). Actual yield depends on weather, moisture and losses at harvest.
Why does the bushel result depend on the crop?
A bushel is a volume that is measured by weight for each grain. This calculator uses typical test weights: corn 56 lb, wheat and soybeans 60 lb, barley 48 lb and oats 32 lb. Grain moisture also affects the figure, so use the standard moisture for your market.
How do I convert wheat bushels per acre to tonnes per hectare?
Wheat is typically counted at 60 lb per bushel. So 60 bu/acre is 3,600 lb/acre, and multiplying by 1.120851 gives 4,035 kg/ha, or 4.04 t/ha.
How many bushels per acre is 3.36 tonnes per hectare of soybeans?
Soybeans use a typical 60 lb per bushel. Reversing the conversion, 3,362.55 kg/ha is 3,000 lb/acre, which is 50 bu/acre. In other words 50 bu/acre is 3.36 t/ha.
How much corn will 40 acres produce at 180 bushels per acre?
Choose total mode, corn, 180 bu/acre and 40 acres. The yield is 10,080 lb/acre, so the field produces 403,200 lb, which is about 182,888 kg or 182.9 tonnes. Real harvests depend on weather, moisture and losses.
